CH-05. The Farewell Party

Israel/Germany, Feature Film, 2014, 95 min

?The cast consists of the icons of Israeli comedy; they dig into their dramatic and literally flesh-baring roles with gusto.? ? Variety

In this comedy about euthanasia, inventor Yehezkel and his wife Levana live in a Jerusalem retirement home. Yehezkel visits his old pal Max, who is terminally ill and begs Yehezkel to put him out of his misery. He joins forces with retired veterinarian Dr. Daniel, who might be a member of the Hemlock Society and who will provide the drugs, along with graft-loving former police detective Segal, who will clean up the evidence. Yehezkel’s Rube Goldberg contraption allows Max to off himself by pressing a button, and the machine is instantly effective. But word spreads, and Yehezkel is besieged by those wanting to end the suffering of their own loved ones in the retirement home. Huge sums of money are mentioned, and excop Segal senses a goldmine. Subtitled.
