Americans know nothing of cinq ?ept affairs, which refers to that hazy window of time after work when married Parisians can briefly hook up with their lovers without having to explain their whereabouts at home. Brian (Anton Yelchin), a handsome young writer, and Arielle (B?nice Marlohe), the elegant wife of a French diplomat and mother of two, meet outside a NYC hotel and immediately enter into a wildly passionate cinq ?ept affair. But Brian has some doubts ... and so do his long-married Jewish parents (Frank Langella and Glenn Close), who also have never heard of cinq ?ept affairs, and who both glumly predict disaster and heartbreak. Are they right?
