HS-02. Fair Play

Czech Republic, Feature Film, 2014, 100 min

In 1983, a gifted young sprinter, Anna, is selected for the Czechoslovakian team and starts training to qualify for the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. As a part of the training, she is placed on a special vitamin program. Her performance improves, but she has a host of side effects, including rampant body hair. When she stops taking the ?vitamins,? state security agents respond by pressuring friends and family to coerce Anna back into line; some buckle under blackmail. These wholesale doping regimes were designed to turn athletes into medalwinning propaganda weapons for the Soviet system with no regard for morality, legality or the health of their young. But within a few years, everything will change with the Velvet Revolution.
