CH-10. Mr. Kaplan

Spain/Uruguay/Germany, Feature Film, 2014, 98 min

In 1979, Holocaust survivor and Montevideo resident Jacob Kaplan is 76 years old. He’s been married for 50 years to Rebecca, and has two wonderful grown sons and a sweet teenage granddaughter. However, the retired Jacob still feels like he’s barely achieved anything with his life compared to, say, Goethe or Winston Churchill. Then one day he comes across two random pieces of information; putting them together, he comes to the startling realization that the elderly German who runs a beachfront cafe near his house is, in fact, a famous Nazi war criminal. Teaming up with his chauffeur, Wilson, a bumbling alcoholic former police officer, they do an exhaustive (and often comical) investigation into the past and come up with truly surprising results. Subtitled.
