CH-11. Slingshot

USA, Feature Documentary, 2014, 93 min

Fifty percent of all human illness is the result of waterborne pathogens. Dean Kamen, holder of 440 patents and the inventor of the Segway, has developed an energyefficient vapor compression distiller that can turn any unfit source of water (seawater, poisoned well water, river sludge, etc.) into potable, safe water without any need for chemical additives or filters. A quirky genius with a sharp wit and a progressive worldview, Kamen is our era?s Thomas Edison. He has invented the first drug-infusion pump and the first portable dialysis machine, reconceived kidney dialysis, engineered a radical new electric wheelchair (the Ibot) and reworked the heart stent. Can the SlingShot device take down the goliath of bad water? This is a compelling portrait of a great modern-day hero.
