USA, 93 min, Feature Documentary

"Hits all the sweet spots and high notes." Hollywood Reporter

"If you like rhythm and blues with hard-driving horns, this is the film for you." Toronto International Film Festival

"An inspiring portrait of how music sustains us and gives us life." Point of View Magazine.

The extraordinary soul-singing powerhouse Sharon Jones and her band the Dap Kings (who backed Amy Winehouse) have gained a large and fanatical fan base that continues growing with no end in sight. This film begins a few years ago as Sharon visits a barber to have her head shaved for treatment of her recently diagnosed pancreatic cancer. The film ends with her blow-the-lid-off stage return, and the release of her Grammy-nominated album "Give the People What They Want." Two-time Oscar winner Barbara Kopple documents Sharon’s personal and musical journey, and gives us access to those moments, both sad and triumphant, that put the soul back in Sharon’s music.
