In certain groups?boomers especially?mention ?Catcher in the Rye? and eyes light up. There are people whose lives were forever changed by this novel. This movie is about 16-year-old Jamie Schwartz, unpopular in school, who was driven by the unshakable belief that he will someday play Holden Caulfield?on Broadway and in the movies. Jamie adapts the novel into a play to put on at his boarding school, but after a series of hostile incidents he runs away to search for the book’s reclusive author, J.D. Salinger (played by Chris Cooper). On the way, Deedee Gorlin, a local girl, picks him up and their roller-coaster odyssey to find Salinger is a journey into the meaning of friendship and love.
