Frantz

France/Germany, Feature Film, 2016, 113 min

It’s 1919, and every day Anna visits the grave of her beloved fianc├â╞Æ├é┬⌐├âΓÇÜ├é┬É, Frantz (killed in the Great War), in a small German town cemetery. Occasionally, she would catch a glimpse of Adrein, a tall, mysterious man standing at Frantz’s grave. A Frenchman, Adrein and Frantz were violin students at the Sorbonne before the war and were great friends. Astounded by this connection to Frantz, Anna brings Adrein to meet and stay with her and Frantz’s grief-stricken parents. She begins to fall in love with Adrein, but all is not as it seems in Fran├â╞Æ├é┬ºois Ozon’s masterful study of grief, illusion and forgiveness.

Directed by François Ozon
