Swim Team

USA, Feature Film, 2016, 92 min

“Everybody beams when their child succeeds, but parents of children with developmental disabilities beam like the rays of sun bursting out of the clouds.” MYCENTRALJERSEY.COM

What would you do if your community didn’t allow your child to join in athletics? In New Jersey (which has the highest autism rate in the nation), the parents of one boy take matters into their own hands. They form a competitive swim team, recruiting diverse autistic teens and training them with high expectations and zero pity. Lara Stolman follows three powerful swimmers from the famous Jersey Hammerheads as they persevere beyond expectations. The film shows how the discipline and physical training of competitive sports reduces autistic symptoms and alters the course of these kids’ lives.
