BT-11. Humor Me

USA, Feature Film, 2017, 93 min

Humor Me is a heartfelt father-son comedy about a once acclaimed New York playwright Nate (Jemaine Clement, HBO’s ├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├àΓÇ£Flight of the Conchords├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├é┬¥) who can’t finish his new play. When his wife (Maria Dizzia, ├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├àΓÇ£Orange is the New Black├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├é┬¥) leaves him, taking their son with her, he becomes desolate. Broke and unable to pay the rent, Nate begrudgingly moves to New Jersey to live with his father (Elliott Gould, Mash, Ocean’s Eleven), in a retirement community. There, Nate’s misery is tested by his dad’s endless jokes. When he stumbles across the senior citizens’ community-theater troupe, he tries to give directing├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓé¼┬¥and human interaction├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓé¼┬¥another chance. Humor Me is Sam Hoffman’s directorial debut, inspired by his website Old Jews Telling Jokes, which also sparked an off-Broadway play, a bestselling book and a lecture series.
