LONG-04. Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind

Canada, Feature Documentary, 2019, 90 min

Briskly entertaining and entirely legend-affirming... Toronto Star

Gordon Lightfoot, 80, is full of surprises, the best being his honesty and humor. He is not afraid to talk about his many mistakes in life, or which of his major songs he now hates. Lightfoot has had a spectacular career as a singer, but it pales next to his legendary songwriting impact on music. Every Lightfoot lyric is an earworm, of course, and that's why THIRTY-ONE of the world's biggest music stars have recorded Lightfoot songs, many with huge hits. They range from Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton to Barbra Streisand, Johnny Cash, Neil Young and many, many more. Lightfoot went from being an award-winning boy soprano at 12, to selling out stadiums in his 20s, to depression and alcoholism in his 30s, and then back on top again. If you could only read his mind.
