Just back from an overseas assignment, acclaimed war photographer Daniel Fisher (Hugo Weaving) and his pregnant wife Josie hear a knock on the door. The visitor is Sebastian Amad, a South Sudanese immigrant, taxi driver and choir director, who has made a good life in Sydney for himself and his family. But Sebastian knows that he and Daniel share a ghastly connection. Daniel’s new book and exhibition will display his famous photographs of a gruesome massacre in Sebastian’s home village 15 years earlier, which may be connected with his own family tragedy. When Daniel allows Sebastian to view the photos first, the two men and their wives become friends...a friendship that is deeply tested by new information from their past.
