The film is at times terrifying, heartbreaking and always infuriating...
Hot Docs Review
Illiterate Peruvian farmer M├â╞Æ├é┬íxima Acu├â╞Æ├é┬▒a didn’t become an activist until the huge American Newmont Mining Corporation began terrorizing her and her family to scare them off their land├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓé¼┬¥which they had farmed for a hundred generations. Since 2011, M├â╞Æ├é┬íxima and her family have put up with physical violence, legal threats, constant surveillance from local authorities and Newmont hired guns. Through it all, she refuses to yield or sell out, and then does the unthinkable: she takes them to court. M├â╞Æ├é┬íxima Acu├â╞Æ├é┬▒a fights to protect the high Andes and the indigenous people from permanent environmental destruction by American hands.
