Imitating Life: The Audacity of Suzanne Heintz

This film is about a ├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├àΓÇ£loud-mouthed├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├é┬¥ girl from Yonkers who embarks on a strange and entertaining photographic crusade to challenge persisting stereotypes about women’s roles and lives. Creating husband and child mannequins, posed to depict archetypes of mid-20th century ideals, she travels the world and places herself at the center of ├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├àΓÇ£family vacation photos├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├é┬¥ as the perfect wife and mother, provoking a re-examination of our most fundamental assumptions. Heintz’s work has a global following and her photography series has led to exhibits around the world. But her resilience is put to the test by all-too-real life challenges. Imitating Life is an unconventional and funny portrait of an artist whose work blurs the lines between art and life, and a woman racing to triumph in art, identity and survival.
