Although Jim Marshall sometimes comes across as a raging, coke-fueled, gun-brandishing malcontent, he was also the towering genius photographer who was handpicked to shoot the Beatles during their last live performance in 1966, along with two of Johnny Cash’s prison concerts, the entire 1972 Rolling Stones tour and hundreds of the greatest rockers in history. Marshall hit the jackpot again in the 1990s with his famous photos of the great early rappers, and he hired an archivist, Amelia Davis, who was his devoted assistant for the last 13 years of his life. Davis is one of the producers of this spectacular film about a time that looks more delirious with each passing year. Featuring appearances by Michael Douglas, Graham Nash (Crosby, Stills & Nash), Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane), and Peter Frampton.
