CEN1-01. Crows are White

Japan/Ireland/USA, Feature Documentary, 2022, 98 min

Delights in awkwardness… a tender and quite funny documentary. The Hollywood Reporter

How does a good Muslim son, Ahsen, tell his devout, far-away parents that he will marry a non-believing white woman named “Dawn?” Well, in search of guidance, he travels to a Japanese monastery to make a documentary, and to get spiritual counseling, but the only helpful monk, Ryushin, prefers heavy-metal and sundaes over meditation. Ahsen is soon kicked out because his cell phone rings during a ritual, so he and Ryushin rush out of the monastery and into a spiritual journey of their own. But what about his long-dreaded Meeting With The Parents? Ahsen needs to shoot that scene as the ending of this film, but now he is running out of money, courage, and the patience of Dawn. Shot over five years on three continents, Crows are White is an exploration of truth, faith and love, from the top of a mountain to the bottom of a sundae. PARTIALLY SUBTITLED Subtitled.
