CEN2-06. Fashion Reimagined

UK/USA, Feature Documentary, 2022, 100 min

Fashion is among the most polluting industries in the world, and unless a designer personally visits each supplier, they cannot be confident that their business is sustainable and ethical. Yet no designer has ever embarked on such a journey — until now. Amy Powney of Mother of Pearl is a rising star in the London fashion scene. When she wins the coveted Vogue award for the Best Young Designer of the Year, which comes with a big cash prize, Amy decides to use the money to create a sustainable collection from field to finished garment and transform her entire business. Amy’s is a David and Goliath story about a fiercely determined young woman from a rural, working class background, fighting a highly complex behemoth of a system. It is also a lyrical reflection on the cost of our own consumption.
