LONG-01. Hip Hop-eration
New Zealand, Feature Documentary, 2014, 93 min
Winner of Audience Awards around the world
Who said your grandma couldn't be a hip hop star? These seniors may have lived almost a century, but for Kara (94), Maynie (95) and Terri (93), the journey to Las Vegas and the World Hip Hop Dance Championships is the greatest adventure of their lives. Already an internet sensation, the 23 high-energy elders of Hip Hop-eration are the oldest dance group in the world (according to Guinness), they’re all from the same tiny island off of New Zealand, and they’re trained by their exuberant manager Billie Jordan to push their bodies and artificial joints to the absolute limits. “You’re all going to Vegas,” she yells, “even if you’re in an urn!”Directed by Bryn Evans
