Iran, Feature Film, 2023, 77 min

Presented in Un Certain Regard at Cannes

This often funny movie asks, “What is daily life like under authoritarianism?” This film portrays men, women, and children in Iran in apparently mundane situations in which the absurd comes to disrupt everything. Focusing on everyone from school teachers to bureaucrats, these stirring vignettes capture the spirit and determination of people amidst adversity, offering a fascinating portrait of a complex society. Filmmaker Ali Asgari was banned from traveling and making movies after the film screened in Cannes. Subtitled.
