The Fox

Austria/Germany, Feature Film, 2023, 118 min

Five nominations for Austrian Film Awards

In 1938, young Franz’s country, Austria, was taken over by Hitler, and Franz (great-grandfather of this film’s director) was conscripted into the German Army as a motorcycle courier. Early in the war, Franz finds a wounded fox cub crying over the body of its mother. He decides to nurse it back to health and looks after the animal as if it were his own child. With the little fox tucked into Franz’s greatcoat, they cross Europe undetected…easier if you are a motorcycle courier. This is a film for those who have had the good fortune to live with an animal and felt psychological healing through the experience. Subtitled.
