Māori filmmaker Josephine Stewart-Te Whiu’s film celebrates the friendship of a group of girls and their dramatic drive to survive. In 1954 New Zealand, Nellie and Daisy attempt to escape an institution for delinquent girls, but when they are caught, it triggers a relocation to a facility on a remote island. When Lou joins them, the trio rail against the system of institutional Christianization, taking refuge in their blossoming friendship. However, a sense of doom settles in when a new form of punishment takes place in the dead of night. The girls fight back.
