Los Hermanos/The Brothers

Cuba/ USA, Feature Documentary, 2020, 84 min

Expertly crafted and beautifully paced, like a great piece of music. A gift to us all. Maestro Joshua Bell

This exciting, long-awaited film follows two Cuban-born brothers and award-winning musicians, Ilmar López Gavilán, a violinist who left Havana in his teens to study in Moscow, later relocating to New York, and Aldo, a pianist, whose professional training and career developed in Havana. The film tracks their wildly different careers and styles of classical music, their poignant reunion and their momentous first performances together. Los Hermanos offers a nuanced view of living on opposite sides of a geopolitical chasm a half-century wide, all through the lens of music and family. Subtitled.
